Losing Motivation to Exercise because life is just "too busy" right now??
Let’s be real: between kids, work deadlines, dinner prep, and all the mental tabs open in your brain, sometimes finding the motivation to workout feels like the last thing you can manage.
It’s is often the first thing we let go in a busy week, yet exercise is probably the most important thing to help keep you balanced and functioning in the long run!
Why does motivation dip in your 30s, 40s and 50s? Here's what you need to know.
The irony? We need exercise during these decades more than ever. Regular exercise reduces stress, lifts mood, helps manage hormones, and keeps our bodies strong and mobile as we age.
But without a plan or community, it’s easy to fall into the “I’ll start Monday” trap.
Here are 4 easy tips to get (and stay!) on track…
1. Find your “why”
“I want to have more energy for my kids.”
“I want to feel strong when I run”
“I want to keep playing team sport without getting injured”
Your ‘why’ will keep you going on the days motivation is low.
2. Make it part of your schedule
Studies show that people who exercise at the same time each day are more consistent. Treat your workouts like appointments—not negotiable, not optional.
3. Keep it social
Training with a group (like Manly’s most social bootcamp) provides accountability and a sense of belonging. You don’t need to be besties with everyone, but community is a powerful motivator. In fact, a 2017 study found group exercisers reported 26% lower stress levels and significantly improved mental health over those who trained solo (Journal of the American Osteopathic Association).
4. Celebrate consistency over perfection
It doesn’t have to be perfect every time. Any movement is better than none and studies show the more regular the better!! A quick 20-minute beach jog or leaving a session 15 mins early still counts.
At OzSquad, we’ve built a schedule that works for working parents, shift workers, and busy humans who still want to move their bodies. Our flexible NO BOOKING system means as long as you get up, you can come along to a session! Don’t be hamstrung by booked out gym classes or intimidated by the plethora of weight machines (and muscle bros!) on a gym floor.
Come sweat with us, even if it’s just once a week to start!! The only bad workout is the one you didn’t do!
