Learn to Run: Manly, Freshwater & Curl Curl
Have you always wondered how on earth people do it?
How do they just keep on running and running when you would probably choose to poke your own eye out with a fork as a more pleasurable pastime?!
You can find out how, and be able to proudly call yourself a ‘runner’ by the end of a six-week Learn to Run course with OzSquad.
The course includes:
– One face-to-face 75-90 minute group session a week, limited to 12 people.
– A little running ‘homework’ and support via a WhatsApp group and weekly emails for the duration of the course, plus follow ups afterwards to keep you on track (we REALLY want to hear about that first fun run you enter!).
– Information and practical drills on correct running form, effective strength exercises for runners, breathing techniques, tackling hills, heart rate and how to silence the voices telling you to stop – as well as actually getting out running and building your strength and fitness week to week.
– Assessing each individual’s ‘run readiness’ in terms of balance, calf strength and hip/knee stability to identify personalised areas of focus. For our running Mums, we also assess any pelvic floor, ab separation and any other post-natal concerns.
The Learn to Run program is aimed at the complete beginner through to people who have run in the past and are keen to get back into it.
Your coach, Carly, is a qualified personal trainer with over 12 year’s experience, a Paceline accredited running coach, a MumSafe trainer and a proud ‘Runner’.

Learn to Run FAQs
Complete the ‘register’ interest form above. You will then receive an email with details of how to pay and a waiver that we need completing. Then you’re good to go!
The course consists of six 75-90 minute sessions, one per week for 6 weeks.
$189pp for 6 face-to-face sessions and ongoing online support. Cheaper than therapy!
Each session will consist of some technical form teaching, running drills to practise the form, some running strength/mobility exercises and a little run. Do not worry, you will not be running for 90 minutes!!
Between 75 and 90 minutes. We will fit the core content into 75 minutes every week, however often there are questions and lots more to talk about at the end of the class which is useful if you can stick around, but isn’t vital for your running journey if you have to get back to the desk/chores/kids.
No, don’t worry, the actual ‘runs’ in the sessions are kept short and are broken up with lots of teaching, drills, strength exercises and more than likely some chit-chat too!
There is no ‘keeping up’! The routes are designed so that there are options for all abilities and a good personal trainer will always make sure the faster runners are given further to go. We are good personal trainers 😉.
If you change your mind or can no longer make it and give us more than 7 days’ notice before the start of the course, we will refund your payment in full. If you withdraw within 7 days of the course start date or once the course has started, no refunds are applicable, but we will offer you a place on our next course instead.
We understand that work commitments, sick kids and life happens! If you miss a session, we will provide the content via email and will follow up with a phone call to talk through what you missed. No running detention necessary 😉.
We require a minimum of 4 people for the course to go ahead and places are limited to 12 to ensure that you all get personalised attention.
Should we not reach the minimum numbers required, we will communicate this to you at least 3 days before the start of the course and will refund in full.
Wear comfy active wear, running shoes and a hat or visor if it is stinking hot.
Yourself, a bottle of water and a bit of banter!
It depends….. we do not recommend commencing running post-natally until you are at least 3 months post-partum and have had a Women’s health physio check. We are however qualified ‘MumSafe’ trainers and our course builds up running slowly and safely addressing common post-natal contra-indications to running. Please give Carly a call on 0408 700765 to discuss if the course will be right for you or if you would like a voucher for an assessment with our local Women’s Health Physio.
The majority of our courses are baby free, although we do plan a ‘running Mum’ with prams course as well. Stay tuned and in the mean-time, check out our sister Mums and Bubs exercise business Buggy Bootcamp.
We recommend leaving valuables at home or in your car, but the trainer will be carrying a backpack for keys etc and you can leave bags in their car if required.
Yep, right where we meet. Nervous wee away.
You get wet. 😉
Sessions will only be cancelled if the weather is ‘dangerous’ and if there is lightning overhead (as this invalidates our insurance). In the unlikely event that we do have to cancel a session, a week will be added to the end of the course. Sorry, we do not class rain as dangerous and besides, running in the rain counts double!
We obviously aim for this not to happen and our course builds distance up very gradually and incorporates lots of running strength to guard against this. If you need to withdraw from the course, we will offer you a place on the next one from Week 1 again.
Hmmm, there’s no easy way to say this… yes! You will benefit even more hugely from the course if you can fit in one or two run/walks between the sessions as well. We will cover your suggested homework for the week ahead at each class.
There is no test (it’s not that kind of course!) but we do like to visit parkrun at the end of our time together as a way to celebrate and consolidate what we’ve learnt.
There’s always one. 😉 We’re joking – please do not hesitate to contact Carly on 0408 700765 or carly@ozsquad.com.au with any queries you may still have.
