Learn to Run Group One Debrief

Have you noticed even more runners than usual pounding Manly’s pavements in recent weeks? You should have as the first group of OzSquad Learn to Runners have all been diligently doing their homework (under Sgt Steggles orders) and learning to run!

We’ve had ladies running 5km non-stop for the first time ever, kilograms have been shed, Queenscliff hills have been conquered and yes, a couple of people got lost (and found again). Fun Runs have been entered and the group are keeping up their new-found-almost-love-of-running at the weekly OzSquad RunSquad.

Learn to Run by numbers:

10  number of plucky ladies who took on, and completed, the Learn to Run challenge

1.6 length in km of Week 1 run/walk route

5 length in km of Week 6 route

2 number of wrong turns taken

½ quantity of bottle of beer necked on route in week 5 by a Learn-to-Runner who shall remain nameless…

17 number of times Carly was heard saying “Core is King..”

10 number of groans in unison (per week) at the instruction “plank” or “crunch”

63 number of minutes it took for the celebratory burritos to be served (approximately 62 too long)

1 very proud coach

And here are what a few of the runners had to say about the course…

The Learn to Run program exceeded all my expectations.  Before the course, I couldn’t run more than about 800 metres without having to stop….by the end of the 6 weeks I was running 3km without stopping and continuing on to complete 5km using the run/walk technique.  I can safely say I am now addicted…. I love to run and I love how I feel when I’ve done it!  Carly is totally inspiring, encouraging and fun while providing fantastic techniques and information on how to do this thing called running!  I would highly recommend the course to any beginner runners out there….go for it!!
Sophie, Manly – Runner

I wanted to thank you for the Learn to Run course that we’ve just completed.  I’ve hated running all my life and now, in my 50’s, and having completed the Learn to Run course I’ve realised that I will probably never love running, BUT – I CAN DO IT!  My sense of personal achievement is huge, the endorphin level after each week was amazing and Carly’s patience and sense of fun was the catalyst for that.  I will be maintaining some running as part of my fitness work and I recommend this course for anyone wanting to push themselves just a little, in a safe and protected group, and have fun while they are doing it.
Fiona, Manly – Runner

I’d highly recommend the Learn to Run Course! The course was well paced, fun and practical and I was able to automatically apply the skills I learnt to improve my running technique. When I joined the course I was only able to run a km or two without stopping and by the end of the six weeks I was running 5km non-stop and now plan to enter a 10km fun run!
Lauren, Manly – Runner

Again, thank you SO much for the last 6 weeks, I have really enjoyed it and found my love of running again thanks to OzSquad!!!
